One of the biggest things that prevent growth in a CPA firm is an owner who spends too much time involved in the day-to-day activities of running their practice.
Doing so adversely affects your practice and the enjoyment that you get out of it, resulting in two things:
1. Not enough time or energy to grow their practice
You want to spend less time IN your practice so that you can spend more time ON it.
In other words, you should be spending less time on the admin/tech stuff (the $10 dollar/$100 tasks), and more time on the $500 tasks that help you GROW your practice.
Here are three tips that you can use right away to help you break free from the above:
Use your calendar more effectively.
Schedule time to take time off from working IN your practice. Start with one day a week or two half days.
Delegate admin and tech work to your team, or outsource it.
However, remember to provide your team with space to grow. Be a mentor and support them while they develop and perform up to your level.
Empower your team to make decisions and run the operations.
Allow them to provide answers before you give it. Let them be the problem solvers. Don’t forget to praise them publicly!
Doing the above will free up at least 8-10 hours per week that can be used to grow your practice.
